The JBS Collection, over the course of one weekend in Florida, kicked off its 2024 season of automotive events right where 2023 ended; in continued, winning form.

The JBS Collection—owned by Jack Boyd Smith Jr. of Elkhart, Indiana, and ranked number 85 in the world according to The Classic Car Trust’s 2023 publication, The Key—was presented with the 2024 Best in Class Award, in the Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Class, at The Amelia Concours d’Elegance, in Amelia Island, Florida. The JBS Collection also received the Superstars-Best of Collection Award at the inaugural ModaMiami automotive event in Coral Gables, Florida. Both events took place over the weekend of Feb. 29 – March 3.

The JBS Collection’s multiple award-winning 1923 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Pall Mall, one of only two of its kind known to remain worldwide, was awarded the Best in Class honor in The Amelia’s Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Class, and the collection’s historic 1937 Cord 812 Phaeton Convertible—originally owned by legendary American aviator Amelia Earhart—was honored with the Superstars-Best of Collection Award at the inaugural ModaMiami automotive event.

The Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost and the Cord 812 Phaeton were both restored for The JBS Collection by LaVine Restorations, Inc. of Nappanee, Indiana.

“It was obviously a great way to start off the season, and we’re thrilled and honored to win two significant awards—at two different events—over the course of one weekend,” said Jack Boyd Smith Jr. “The Amelia has long been one of the premier concours events in the country, and we’re so proud to be a part of that history and ongoing tradition. We’ve had many great moments at The Amelia over the years—and this was one of the best—and the inaugural ModaMiami event was very impressive. It was extremely well planned and coordinated and we’ll be looking forward to seeing what they do next year. Overall, the weekend was a great way to start 2024 and I think both awards speak to how unique our collection is, and it speaks to the very special relationship we have with our friends at LaVine Restorations.”

The 1923 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Pall Mall was a multiple winner at the 2023 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance; where it was awarded Second in Class in the Class H: Rolls-Royce Prewar category and also took home the 2023 Ansel Adams Award. The Silver Ghost, featuring Springfield’s popular Pall Mall open body style and boasting extremely rare dual-cowl/dual-windshield coachwork, was produced in Springfield, Massachusetts; among a production run of American-made Rolls-Royce automobiles considered by many experts to have improved chassis and superior bodies to their British siblings.

In 2023 The JBS Collection’s iconic 1937 Cord 812 Phaeton Convertible was added to the National Historic Vehicle Register and was presented under glass on the National Mall in Washington D.C. The Cord passed through various hands before being acquired in 2018 by The JBS Collection—which was among several renowned collections to participate at the inaugural ModaMiami automotive event, sponsored by RM Sotheby’s and advertised as a fresh take on the classic Concours d’Elegance format.

The four-day ModaMiami event, in the style of Monterey Car Week, featured auctions, parades, and concours events, along with live entertainment and fine dining with celebrity chefs to enhance and update the traditional park-and-show experience for all involved. The ModaMiami concours featured over 150 rare vehicles, including eight former Best of Show winners from Pebble Beach and the one, very special Cord from Smith Jr.’s heralded collection.

Absolutely spectacular is how I would describe our opening weekend,” said Smith Jr. “Obviously there were logistical challenges to overcome, being at both shows, but we couldn’t have asked for a better outcome and both events were just outstanding. We have a great season of shows and events remaining in 2024, and hopefully our opening weekend at both the legendary Amelia Concours and the inaugural ModaMiami event will serve as a preview for what’s yet to come.”
